Like one review I read for this, I have to say, this game is pretty in depth. Like overwhelmingly in depth. But its nothing a bit of personal science can't overcome eventually.To summerize, you are the booker of a wrestling promotion. YOU make the matches, YOU make the story lines, YOU sign talents to your company. You virtually do it all in a very hands on way. What you do will also effect your relationship with the promotions owner, the talents backstage and how your company does overall. There is so much in this game, that if I listed it all, this review will be TL;DR, but for an example, you can assign gimmicks to wrestlers, make them Face or Heel ( good guy - bad guy )...or if you are feeling like a toootal **** you can just outright bury the wrestler that has somehow irked you. There is so much to do, just give anything a try.And if thats not enough, then....just make your own promotion, wrestlers, talents, gimmick ect ect ect through the games very handy and easy to use editor feature. I have made a start on doing my own and it does take a bit of time, but its worth it when you got your own pet promotion and talents going.Do recommend, will just devour time and is very engaging.. Take this Thumb Down review as just my personal taste in games, as well as the fact that this game is really old and so finding mods, especially those with pictures is really hard, every time I came across a recommended site, its was obviously an outdated source and as such the website was shut down, I did eventually find one (http://homeofprowrestling.com/tew/tew%202010/rwmods.html)So for those of you wanting to try this game, there you go.And if you really like Wrestling and IF you REALLY, REALLY like in depth management sims, then this could be the game for you, though even then for better support I would probably recommend trying one of the new titles, as this also adds to my down vote as the game as ZERO tutorial and finding guides for this game is just as hard as finding mods, there is a community guide here on steam, which is amazing for taking you on a step by step guide of this, the only shame is that its a part one and the guy never did a follow-up, aleast posted on that steam page anyway, still if your determined to give this a go, I really recommend reading that as a start off point.As honestly I can see the potential of this game, you really seemed able to control every aspect of running your own wrestling company, just from my point view, the layout is time-consuming, and the actual gameplay is confusing. Personally I would of like it a little less ultra realistic or maybe someway to streamline the process, for example when you wrestle enters the ring, you can set that as part of the process of the house show, including any entrances….might be just me here but I would like that just be part of the match the wrestling entering the ring and maybe what style of entrance they use, should be set as part of the wrestlers profile, how elaborate it is = how much it costs per match, set once and done and dusted.Anyway, like I said these might be here somewhere but due to how little support there is, if I was still 18yrs younger then maybe I would have the patience to sit and work it out, these days I prefer the freedom of choice but easily explained and implanted. However like I said, there defiantly seems like potential for great game here, for those who can stick with it, which probably explains how this game got sequels and because of that, I would have to recommend if your interested, those newer versions….. I may even try one myself, as it was I only heard about this game series as I received this game with a bundle, which probably explains why it was the oldest one.As of this date however only 2010 and 2013 are available on Steam, a previous version of 2005 was also released and the current game in the series is 2016 but these are currently not available through the Steam Library.. Good sim.Quite hard the first few times you play, but once you use your head and take 5 min to learn the subtleties of TEW 2010, it is quite enjoyable.This edition is much better than the 2013, you can actually create in detail your storyline in opposition to TEW 2013 where you cannot (at least I have not seen how you can do it).I don't see the point of bringing TEW 2013 on steam since TEW 2010 is a much better sim.A to buy considering the low low price here.. If you are wrestling fan and prefer backstage part of it instead of playing matches, this game is for you. It is shame that this is tha last and only one aviable on steam. They should add more recent ones from this franchise.. Let me start with a tl:dr version:This is a management type sim. Not a game where you get to control a wrestler in an actual match.This isn't the company's current offering in the series, but the software sold from their website is evil - meaning it's tied to ELicense. So even if you aren't a fan of Steam - be thankful you haven't messed with ELicense.That aside - this version has well established mods and is plenty of fun if simulations and wrestling are interests of yours.----My original review on why I'd recommend it.Total Extreme Wrestling (TEW) is a fun game if you always wanted to delve into the management side of wrestling.Management side of wrestling? Yes, the side of the industry where we all know it's story based entertainment, with athletes portraying the roles of actors, all with varying degrees of success. In this game you play the role of the person who runs the company, building the stable of your wrestlers through contracts, defining which talent you'll be aligning to which story line, and who they'll be facing in order to make it all entertaining for the people who come to watch the show. This is where the challenge comes in, as the best long running plot can fail utterly if you use the wrong kind of talent in pulling it off. For example, you may create a grudge war which pits two of your wrestlers against each other for the fans viewing pleasure. The individual steps of that grudge war can include actions such as one wrestler taunting the other in a pre-match interview. Well, if the wrestler you have give the interview isn't skilled in speaking well, then the fans might not find the taunting interesting enough, and as a result, they'll be cold towards the next event as they begin to loose interest.The end result you find is it's a management \/ business sim where you need to hire athletic actors to manipulate the masses by entertaining them and playing with their emotions, which then nets you the money you need to keep the business going.Also, while some folks enjoy the wrestling universe that comes with the game, I myself find it hard to relate to, so I usually find one of the fine "Real-world" mods that the TEW community has created, so that way I can hire \/ fire \/ ruin the career of wrestlers I actually am familiar with.While this isn't the current version of the game (TEW 2013 is), the current version is only sold on the company website. I've owned both, and found that I put more hours into TEW 2010.
